Hanover Woman and Daughter Killed in King William Car Pond Crash

A Hanover County woman and her 4-year-old daughter tragically lost their lives when their vehicle ran off the road and crashed into a pond during the first winter storm of 2025 in Virginia. The heartbreaking incident occurred on Monday afternoon, January 6, around 1:20 p.m., in the 4000 block of Etna Mills Road, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.

Virginia State Police (VSP) arrived at the scene of the single-vehicle crash. They discovered that Kayeley Elizabeth Williams, a resident of Hanover County, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe when the vehicle veered off the road. The SUV overturned, plunging into the pond. Despite both Kayeley and her 4-year-old daughter being properly restrained—Kayeley wearing her seatbelt and the child secured in a car seat—they tragically did not survive the crash.

Weather conditions were cited as a significant factor in this devastating accident. VSP officers believe the icy roads, worsened by the winter storm, contributed to the loss of control. This crash is among many reported throughout the state as troopers respond to the hazardous conditions created by the storm. As the situation unfolds, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has strongly advised motorists to avoid traveling unless necessary.

The ongoing investigation into the crash may provide further insight into the cause, but for now, the focus remains on the profound loss suffered by the family and community. The tragic incident is a stark reminder of the dangers that winter weather can present on the roads, even for those who take proper precautions.
