Late-night crash closes I-95 South lanes in Richmond after a four-vehicle collision occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday, July 25. The incident happened near the Overbrook Road exit, resulting in a partial shutdown of the southbound side of the interstate, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Virginia State Police responded quickly to the scene and confirmed that the crash involved four separate vehicles. Fortunately, no life-threatening injuries were reported. However, due to the severity of the wreckage and the number of cars involved, both the center and right lanes on I-95 South were temporarily closed to allow first responders to clear the scene safely. The affected lanes have since reopened, and traffic has resumed its normal flow.
While the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, multi-vehicle collisions like this often stem from a variety of factors, including distracted driving, speeding, or failure to maintain a safe following distance. The late-night timing may also suggest the possible influence of fatigue or impaired driving, both of which are known contributors to roadway accidents.
Even in incidents where injuries appear to be minor, crash victims may still experience delayed symptoms such as whiplash, soft tissue damage, or emotional trauma. These injuries can disrupt daily life and lead to medical expenses, time away from work, and psychological stress.
What Compensation May Be at Stake?
Victims of multi-vehicle crashes have the right to pursue compensation for a range of damages. These may include medical bills, lost wages, vehicle repair or replacement costs, pain and suffering, and even future medical treatment if necessary. In some cases, punitive damages may be awarded if negligence—such as drunk or reckless driving—was involved.
