66-Year-Old Richmond Man Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Hull Street Road

RICHMOND, Va. – A 66-year-old Richmond man was fatally struck by an SUV while attempting to cross Hull Street Road on Friday evening. The tragic incident underscores the dangers pedestrians face on busy roadways and raises important questions about liability and compensation for victims and their families.
According to the Richmond Police Department, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian accident at around 6:37 p.m. on Friday, February 21, in the 3800 block of Hull Street Road. Upon arrival, they discovered 66-year-old Charles Hunt lying unresponsive in the right westbound lane of the roadway. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities determined that Hunt was attempting to cross mid-block from the north side of the street to the south when he was struck by an SUV traveling in the westbound left lane. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver, though police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
Legal Considerations and Compensation for Victims’ Families
In tragic cases like this, the victim’s family may be eligible for wrongful death compensation if negligence played a role in the accident. Compensation can cover medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, lost income, and the emotional suffering experienced by the deceased’s loved ones. If the investigation determines that the driver acted recklessly—such as speeding, failing to yield, or driving distracted—the victim’s family could pursue a wrongful death claim to secure the financial support they deserve.
Additionally, survivors may be entitled to compensation even if the pedestrian was partially at fault. Virginia follows a contributory negligence rule, meaning that any shared responsibility could affect the ability to claim damages. However, every case is unique, and legal representation is crucial in determining the best course of action.
