Driver Arrested After Fatal Crash Claims Life of Motorcyclist [CHESTERFIELD, VA]

CHESTERFIELD, VA — Driver arrested after fatal crash claims life of motorcyclist in a heartbreaking incident that unfolded Thursday afternoon on West Hundred Road in Chesterfield. According to police, a Dodge Caliber operated by 56-year-old Bradford G. Jordan of North Chesterfield was traveling eastbound around 3:30 p.m. in the 3600 block of West Hundred Road when tragedy struck.

Authorities say Jordan crossed the center line and collided head-on with a motorcycle heading in the opposite direction. The rider, identified as 29-year-old Christopher D. Harding of Petersburg, suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, Harding succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The driver of the Dodge, Jordan, was immediately taken into custody. Police confirmed he was charged with driving under the influence and DUI maiming. Additional charges are currently under review as the investigation continues.

Due to the severity of the crash, West Hundred Road was completely shut down between Osborne Road and Old Centralia Road for several hours. Authorities reopened the road at approximately 8:30 p.m. after completing a thorough scene investigation and cleanup.

The Chesterfield County Police Department is still seeking more information from the public. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant details is urged to contact Chesterfield Police at 804-748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660.

Legal Options and Compensation for the Victim’s Family

In devastating accidents like this, surviving family members are often left not only with emotional trauma but also with financial burdens. Under Virginia law, families may be entitled to wrongful death compensation, which can cover funeral and burial expenses, medical bills, lost income and support, and compensation for pain, suffering, and emotional distress. In cases involving DUI and gross negligence, punitive damages may also be pursued to hold the offender accountable and deter future reckless behavior.
