Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Henrico Hit-and-Run Crash [Henrico, VA]

Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Henrico Hit-and-Run Crash early Friday morning has left a family mourning and a community seeking answers. Virginia State Police are actively investigating the deadly incident that occurred on Interstate 95 southbound near mile marker 86, shortly after 12:30 a.m. on June 27.

According to preliminary reports, a northbound vehicle on I-95 ran out of fuel and came to a stop on the right shoulder of the highway. Two individuals from that vehicle attempted to cross the highway on foot, first entering the center median before crossing again to walk along the southbound side of the interstate. While walking north along the southbound lanes, tragedy struck.

State police say that one of the pedestrians, later identified as 39-year-old Charles Mauck of Spotsylvania County, was hit by an unidentified vehicle. The driver failed to stop and fled the scene. The second pedestrian immediately pulled Mauck out of the travel lanes and into the median before returning to the disabled vehicle to seek help. Sadly, Mauck died at the scene from his injuries.

At this time, authorities have no information or description of the vehicle involved in the fatal crash. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage from that stretch of I-95 around the time of the incident to come forward. Witnesses are urged to contact Virginia State Police Division 1 Dispatch at 804-750-8758.
