71-Year-Old Man Dies in I-95 Collision and Car Fire in Prince George

A 71-Year-Old Man Dies in I-95 Collision and Car Fire early Tuesday morning, prompting an active investigation and raising concerns over driver fatigue and roadway safety. Authorities have confirmed the victim as Daniel Maryland Jr., who tragically lost his life after his pickup truck collided with an overturned commercial box truck and burst into flames.

The deadly crash occurred on Tuesday, June 10, shortly before 5:30 a.m., along the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, near the 46-mile marker in Prince George’s County, Virginia. Virginia State Police responded swiftly to the scene, where a fiery collision between two vehicles had taken place.

According to preliminary findings, a 2025 Hino box truck was heading southbound on I-95 when the driver lost control, hitting a guardrail on the left shoulder. The vehicle then veered across the grassy median and overturned on its side directly into oncoming northbound traffic. Tragically, the 2007 Ford Ranger pickup truck, traveling in the northbound lane, was unable to stop in time. The collision caused the Ford Ranger to ignite, trapping and killing Maryland at the scene.

The box truck driver, a 31-year-old man from Peterson, Pennsylvania, was reportedly uninjured. Investigators have indicated that driver fatigue may have contributed significantly to the crash. As of now, charges are pending review by the Prince George County Commonwealth’s Attorney, and the case remains under active investigation.
