Woman Fatally Struck by Car; Police Searching for Suspect Driver

Fatal I-95 Crash Leaves 2 Dead, 3 Injured

RICHMOND, Va. – A woman was fatally struck by a car in a tragic hit-and-run incident, and Richmond Police are actively searching for the driver responsible.

The crash occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 5, just before 11 p.m., in the 2600 block of West Main Street. Officers from the Richmond Police Department (RPD) arrived at the scene to find the victim lying unconscious on the ground. Witnesses reported that she had been hit by a dark-colored sedan, which fled the scene without stopping.

Emergency responders transported the woman to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday.

According to the RPD Crash Team’s investigation, the victim had been walking southbound on North Robinson Street, crossing West Main Street, when the vehicle struck her and continued westbound. Authorities are now urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in identifying the driver.

Compensation Available to the Victim’s Family

When a loved one is killed in a hit-and-run accident, the surviving family members may have the right to seek compensation through a wrongful death claim. This can help cover funeral expenses, medical costs incurred before death, lost income the deceased would have contributed, and the family’s emotional suffering. In cases where the driver is identified and found to be at fault, the victim’s family may also seek punitive damages to penalize reckless behavior and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Families may still have legal options even when the at-fault driver is not immediately located. Uninsured motorist coverage, included in many auto insurance policies, can provide compensation in hit-and-run cases. However, navigating these claims can be complex, so having experienced legal representation is crucial.
