Henrico Teen Charged After Crash and Police Chase

A Henrico teen charged after a crash that led to a police chase is now facing multiple criminal offenses. The incident, which occurred on the night of Sunday, March 2, resulted in extensive vehicle damage and an attempted escape on foot before law enforcement intervened.
Crash Leads to Major Damage and Arrest
According to Virginia State Police, the crash happened at approximately 8:57 p.m. near the Route 256 exit on Interstate 81 northbound in Augusta County. Authorities reported that a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, traveling in the left lane, collided with the end cap of a guardrail, causing significant damage to the vehicle. Upon investigation, officers confirmed that the car had been stolen earlier that same day from Chesterfield County.
Following the crash, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A coordinated search effort, involving deputies from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, led to his arrest a short time later.
Suspect Faces Multiple Charges
The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Dylan E. Peters of Henrico, is now facing a range of serious charges, including:
- Two counts of credit card larceny
- Misdemeanor hit and run
- Possession of Schedule IV substances
- Operating a vehicle without a license
- Driving while intoxicated (DWI) – drugs
- Grand larceny
- Being a pedestrian on an interstate
Peters was taken into custody and is currently held at Middle River Regional Jail in Staunton.
