Henrico Fire Chief Involved in Vehicle Collision

Fatal I-95 Crash Leaves 2 Dead, 3 Injured

HENRICO, Va. – On Monday morning, the Henrico Fire Chief was involved in a vehicle collision while responding to an emergency. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the collision has raised questions about the events leading up to it and what measures can be taken to prevent similar occurrences.

According to the Henrico Police Department, the crash involved an unmarked Henrico County Division of Fire vehicle, a Ford Expedition, operated by the fire chief. Preliminary investigations reveal that the fire chief, identified as Jackson Baynard, was responding to a reported crash at the intersection of Old Staples Mill Road and Hungary Road. With emergency lights and sirens activated, Baynard was traveling to the scene when a Toyota Camry, driven by another motorist traveling in the opposite direction, attempted a sudden U-turn in the road and struck the fire chief’s vehicle.

Jackson Baynard, who has served as Henrico’s fire chief since January 2023, was not injured during the collision and has since resumed his duties. However, the driver of the Toyota Camry has been charged with reckless driving for their actions that led to the collision.

Compensation at Stake for Victims

While no injuries were reported in this collision, it highlights important legal considerations for accident victims in similar situations. In cases where injuries occur or property damage is significant, compensation may include medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and vehicle repair or replacement costs. Even if no injuries are reported, victims may still be entitled to compensation for emotional distress or the inconvenience caused by the crash.
