93-Year-Old Albemarle Woman Fatally Struck by Vehicle Reversing in Tragic Accident

A 93-year-old woman from Albemarle County tragically lost her life after being struck by a vehicle reversing out of a parking space on January 12. The incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. at Scottsville Center.

First responders were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving a crash report involving a pedestrian. Upon their arrival, emergency personnel found the victim, Noreen Wilbourn, suffering from life-threatening injuries. Despite their best efforts to save her, Wilbourn sadly passed away at the scene.

The investigation revealed that Wilbourn had been a passenger in the vehicle that struck her. Police reported that the driver, who remains unidentified, was backing out of the parking space when the passenger-side front door hit Wilbourn, causing her to fall to the ground. Although the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, the incident has left the local community in mourning.
